There’s this girl, I’ve grown up with her and she is very smart. It’s not that her brain is much bigger than the average human’s, she just has a certain type of motivation to read an entire history chapter before a test and ace it. She is very liked and is a pretty girl.

But I’ve realized recently that she has a tendency to undermine me. For example, I am very interested in politics and this past election was very intriguing for me. This girl and I would chat about things and politics would come up, me stating my opinion and she would sort of scoff and ask why? Why to everything.

Me: ..blah blah Romney is unlikeable, blah blah but I think he could fix our economy blah blah…
Her: *scoff* how?
(I don’t know how to describe her reply because she would say this, but in a way where you wouldn’t suspect that she is questioning everything you say, failing to back up her questioning until she continues to do this to everything you say ever)
Me: ..um well I think he has a level head and although the people may suffer some, his ideas have worked back when they were developing America blah blah blah.
Her: *scoff* haha ok.

Idk how to describe this and my efforts in writing this are probably futile. But I am a very smart girl and she makes me feel foolish like a child. I can imagine her reading this (if it wasn’t about her) and telling me something about it, making me feel stupid for writing it and that I am just a silly child.

I have no idea how to go about this because everyone loves her because of her sweetness and humor but she makes me feel so foolish and stupid I don’t know what to do about it. She crushes my self confidence with her condescending attitude when I try to talk about serious things.

Undermining.

I’ve never been bullied or had a hard time getting along with people, sure we all have our own form of social-awkwardness, but point being that I was blessed with the ability to easily make people like me.

But honestly, I hate high school. I hate the unnecessary drama but most of all the typical high school set up. Everything is a popularity contest. Everything. From Student Council and NHS to lunch tables and class presidents. Everything is based off who your parents are (mostly for small towns) and your social standing. Like I said, thankfully I’m not the kid who no one wants to be lab partners with but I’m not the most popular girl in school, nor will I ever be. I don’t want to be. I pride myself in my ability to truly be me, something that many girls my age lack.

However, I am aware that life is a huge popularity contest. It’s prevalent with my dad and his sisters. But- people like my parents aren’t ones to start drama, it is started by the immature people who feel like they [cliche] are better than everyone else. I just hope that I, like my mom and dad, am able to rise above the immaturity of society with humility.

High School Blows

My dad’s mother died this past week. She had put him in charge of her funeral and he has kept such a level head through all of the chaos with his ignorant sisters and every other challenge. My dad is my biggest role model.
